Diablo Lake

TOP #1 THING NOT TO MISS THIS SPRING SUMMER

I'll start with the most important thing!

Visit Diablo lake only when it's SUNNY...!!!! Sunshine is what brings out the color of the lake at its best. Do not, I repeat, do not waste your time visiting during overcast or rainy days. (Trust me! I've been there during non-sunny days, and it's just like any other lake).

Diablo Lake is a stunning turquoise-colored reservoir nestled in the North Cascades National Park in Washington State. The lake's vibrant color comes from the fine glacial rock flour that is suspended in the water, creating an otherworldly hue that is simply breathtaking.

The lake is situated along the North Cascades Highway and can be accessed through the Diablo Lake Trailhead. Visitors can take a short hike to the top of Diablo Dam, where they'll be treated to panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The easiest way to experience this is to drive to the Vista point.

For those looking to get out on the water, there are several kayaking and canoeing options available. Tours and rentals are offered by various outfitters, allowing visitors to explore the lake at their own pace.

In addition to its stunning beauty, Diablo Lake is also home to a variety of fish, including rainbow trout, bull trout, and kokanee salmon. Fishing is allowed with a valid license, and there are several areas around the lake where anglers can cast their lines.

Overall, Diablo Lake is a must-see destination for anyone visiting the North Cascades National Park. Its unique color and pristine natural surroundings make it a true gem of the Pacific Northwest.

What we did:
1. Day trip. The roads near the park are winding, be prepared especially if you've motion sickness.
2. Took tons of pictures. (There is also a small cliff-like area you can go to for some snaps at a different angle)
3. On the way back, stopped at the river and enjoyed the chilly water.
4. That's it! It was super fun and one of the best things to watch in Washington and the world!
